The Clausen Lodge, also known as the Gentlemen’s Lodge or Casino, was built in 1885 by Henry Clausen Jr., a prominent New York beer magnate. It was designed as a private retreat where Clausen and his guests could unwind in style amidst the serene beauty of the Sharon Springs countryside. The lodge reflects the elegance and leisure of its time, offering a glimpse into the refined lifestyles of the late 19th century.
Notably, the estate is home to the oldest one-lane bowling alley in the country. Today, guests can experience this blend of history and luxury by booking the entire lodge, which accommodates up to 10 guests and includes five bedrooms with private baths and a modern kitchen. The estate’s rich history and enchanting living spaces make it a unique destination for those seeking a blend of historic charm and modern comfort.
